Revell 1:24 '65 Mustang 2+2 FastbackReviewsThe model comes molded in white, clear and chrome plastic parts. You'll need to sand and cut some pieces to make them fit perfectly, but even if you don't have (or don't want to) spend a lot of time building, you will have a fairly good model. The recommended paint scheme is fairly simple, although you will need 10-15 colours, almost all of which can be used for other models because this one requires only touch ups with almost every colour (eg one stroke with transparent orange and transparent red for the taillights and turn signals). Revell produced this model several years ago, and their more recent models are much better in quality and provide more decals for the interior. Also, the body colour as recommended (poppy red) will be hard to find (since it's no longer produced) if you are looking to paint it as on the box. All in all, a great stock muscle car that's better than the '64 stock mustang, but not as good as Revell's currently produced '07242 Shelby Mustang GT 350 H'. GT LegendsReviewsThe DRM copy protection crap is so extreme on this thing that it simply doesn't work 99% of the time. I really like the concept and the program but it just won't work most of the time....so screw it. This game seems perfectly suited to we older gents who remember seeing these cars "back in the day" when they were first being raced. The sounds and handling characteristics seem authentic and it didn't take too long for me to get a clue as to how the basics work. Like many racing games you essentially have to start at the bottom with the slowest cars and a limited selection of tracks. I suppose this is a sensible system but I don't see what would be wrong with a simple "cheat" button to override this limitation. Heck if I want to scare myself with a Cobra where's the harm? There is probably a keystroke command that will do this but I have not found it yet. Note: when I attempted to install this game on my 6 year old tower running XP I found I did not have a good enough video card and was a little short on memory. It cost me $200+ to have the upgrades done. Make sure you either have the proper specs on your machine or are prepared to upgrade. One of the more realistic games I've encountered for graphics, sounds, driving behavior, and such. What a great simulator! Combine this with a Logitech G25 wheel and a Playseats "cockpit", and you have a simulator second to none. While I have only done a few races, I have done some "test drives" and they are AWESOME! Highly recommended, but you will need a software patch for Vista that is readily available from the manufacturer or on the 'net. It's the perfect el cheapo response to a mid-life crisis. Remember all those great cars you saw but couldn't afford when you were a kid? Well, if you still can't afford a vintage Mustang or Alfa Romeo (and can't find an Austin Mini that still runs), you can simulate the feeling with this game. It's got a wide selection of cars and tracks -- with tons more from modders -- and runs beautifully on mid-level computers (now that it's a couple of years old, anyway.) It has a couple of levels where you can pretty much jump in and drive, arcade-style, working up to the top two of five difficulties that are a fairly rigorous simulation of herding a car with a huge engine and not much of a chassis around gorgeously captured road courses. The car physics are well-modeled (darting around a tight course in an underpowered Mini and trying to coax your Jaguar Mk II to keep the shiny side up on the same course is like two different games). There's a car setup screen that gets more important as you get more serious and a wide range of control and display options. A thorough video mode lets you watch a replay of between 13 and 120 seconds of your last lap, and automatically saves your "hot laps" on each course to relive your best trips. Sound is excellent (I recommend a subwoofer, particularly for the big-block engines ... wow). It could use better crash animations and you don't have enough choice in how you should level up to unlock cars and tracks (although the first three levels make an excellent lesson in the game, lacking only the name "tutorial"). You'll want better than a gamepad for control (good flight joystick or wheel). Great, great driving game. Average Rating:![]() |

Shelby Mustang 1965-1970: Ultimate PortfolioReviewsI remember reading about the release of the Ford Mustang in various magazines at the time and being absolutely amazed at how the Americans went off their brains for a reskinned and tarted up Falcon! It defied logic to me.Then a Texas chicken farmer came along and stuffed ever-larger V8 engines under the hood giving them stunning performance. Ford even went racing and rallying with them and enjoyed some success. This book is choc-a-bloc full of articles about Carroll Shelby and the magic he wove with the Mustang in various guises, in particular the GT350 that many people say was the best muscle car ever made. They could be right.Besides the many road tests of the GT350 and GT500 culled from magazines from all over the world, there are some really fine articles on the history of these cars. For exxample, the comparison between the 1968 Shelby Mustang GT500R and the Dodge Charger R/T--the two protagonists in the vintage Steve McQueen movie Bullitt.Near the end of the book is a most informative article on how to recognise the various Shelby Mustangs from the period together with prices, dimensions, serisal numbers and Shelby-unique parts. Great stuff. For lovers of American high performance cars who want all their information in one place, this book is the best value of them all. There's 216 pages--20 in colur--here, all of it an interesting read. The only thing is the glass self is kind of small to put anything on it except for small die cast metal models. Other than that it looks fantastic and I love it. Average Rating:![]() |
